Terrified of when my 3 year old daughter...........

Wed, 01/26/2005 - 07:34
will have another seizure. I am having a extremely hard time dealing with the aftermath of watching my daughter having seizures, and find myself constantly wondering when the next one will be. The last one she had, was a gran-mal seizure when she was lying in bed, right next to me. I still have nightmares about it. I hope that someone out there can relate to this feeling and give some support and advice.

I too have a 2 year old with uncontrolled seizures. Jack has complex partial epilepsy due to a grade 4 hemorrhage. I had to realize that you can't be there all the time and you will drive yourself nuts over the guilt. I keep a baby monitor by Jack when ever i'm not in the room and that comforts me some. Has the Dr. given you Diastat. This also comforts me, because i know that if he has one that lasts a little longer i can stop it. I you need to vent I could use someone to talk to too.Amy

I'm curious.  When everyone says they have a monitor by the child's bed for night seizures, is that the Baby monitor or is it some other device?

I have the little B & W TV that you can get from Toy R Us.  That way I can see him too.  I have to say being able to glance over while I'm in bed and see him all the time is comforting.  It's not the greatest, but does the job.

It's so hard not to live on the edge of your seat waiting for the next one to come, you are constantly stressed out.  It's a tremendous toll mentally, physically, emotionally...  The whole family suffers, not being able to really go anywhere.   Everyone has to find their own way to deal w/it..., whether it's being able to detach for awhile (which I couldn't do).   thankfully my son had surgery and has been doing very well.  I think if it would have went on any longer I would have had to get help.  The thing that kept me going at the time was the 'fight'... to find the right doc that gave me the right answers and offered help.
