I need to make this reply short due to me needing to get to sleep to be ready for my primary doctor appointment in the morning. But do want to get back on here again and share more information about seizures and epilepsy. The girl you work with is probably having what are called 'photosensitive' triggers. Once she sees something flickering or possibly something moving, it can trigger something in her brain just right a cause her seizures to begin. Other triggers include audio, smells, even hot water being felt on a person's head.
Just so you know what I've gone through with epilepsy, doctors and tests, I have had several basic EEGs, 2 separate video EEGs, a CT [cat scan], MRIs, a WADA test and right after that one, pre-surgical EEG, which is when the EEG electrodes are inplanted directly onto the brain itself. Have gone through many different combonations of antiepileptic drugs [AED], Currently taking 750mgs of Keppra & 150mgs of Lamictal, both twice a day. I know about the vagus nerve stimulator [VNS] and Ketogenic Diet. And even a little about some clinical trials and further epilepsy research. One trial pertaining to the RNS, the responsive neuro stimulator.
I'm a member of the Epilepsy Foundation in America, currently working on becoming a mentor through the H.O.P.E. Program [Helping Other People with Epilepsy]. Also, I'm a Disabled American Veteran, honorably discharged from the Navy back in 1994.
Doing this, what I'm doing right here right now, is what I want and need to do, for hands on experience to work with on how to communicate to people about seizures and epilepsy.
Got questions, I might already have the answers, but if not, then I'll need to do some on-line searching to get the answers.
Got to go. Sleep-time.

Jvalent,
No definite on this but with what sheÂ’s doing during her episodes are actual epileptic seizures, not nonepileptic seizures. They are continuing to take place one after another meaning that she does have epilepsy. And since she is unaware of whatÂ’s going on during the seizure along with being sleepy and having a lower oxygen level, it should fit into one of the Primary Generalized Seizures. These include absences szs, atypical absences szs, myoclonic szs, atonic szs, tonic szs, clonic szs and tonic-clonic szs [grand mals]. My best guess is the grand mals, but no exact definite.
Several things can be done to control the seizures [medications, diet, surgery] and as she grows up her seizures may come to an end. I wish you the best for you and her.
