Keppra Rage- Need Spousal Support

Sun, 05/15/2016 - 11:51
My partner has been on Keppra for almost 3 months and the mood side effects are destroying our relationship. Hoping to connect with other people who have experienced this and can give some advice and insight on how to handle this- it is rapidly spiraling out of control. Rage, anger, paranoia, misremembering conversations, creating fictional conversations or statements and whole-heartedly believing that they are real, and a complete refusal to acknowledge or attempt to restrain these feelings. Help me, please.

KeppRage is the primary issue

Submitted by just_joe on Sun, 2016-05-15 - 15:16
KeppRage is the primary issue with Keppra which has been the go to medication for seizure control. The first thing to do is contact the neurologist (call them) and let them know whats been happening. They can start with weaning him off the keppra. I have had dosage changes and medication changes be done over the phone. When being put on a seizure medication there will be side effects. Generally it takes 4-6 weeks for the body to get used to the medication. After that period the side effects will go away.Side effects do stay with about 5-8% of the people taking it.Call the neurologist which will get things moving. His body will have medication in it for some time after he has taken his last dose. The neurologist can give you more information. Always ask questions and do call them. They have assistants that can answer questions and refer your questions to them. The assistant might get it started but the neurologist can finish my telling th assistant or you what the next step will be. There are many good medications out there.I hope this helpsJoe

I know this post is old but I

I know this post is old but I'm hoping to connect with people that have gone through what is explained above, I too have a spouse who is on Keppra, he was previously on Lamotrigine and the paranoia, anger, jealousy over fictional people and actions, etc., about did me in; now he's on Keppra and I'm seeing similar side effects, not quite as extreme "yet" but all there PLUS the mood swings are intense - my nerves are shot and I know he's the one with medical issues but I feel like some days I am going to have a heart attack from the stress and other days I'm hoping I do just to get a break from all of it.
