Help?? Nocturnal Seizures??

Wed, 04/15/2009 - 14:09

Hi everyone,

My wife has seizures she is on Keppra 500 mg 3 tablets twice a day and Depakote ER 500 mg 2 tablets twice a day , also because she was having extreme RAGES we personally added B6 to her diet once a day, she is also Bi Polar and a mother of three.

Recently her seizures have "seemed" to start being under control however, she has awaken at night DRENCHED in sweat,  having to urinate VERY badly and EXTREMELY thirsty. It doesn't happen very often but when it does she usually has slept almost all day and has a very bad headache that radiates from temporal to back of the head to her whole head hurting and then just one side hurting again. Following the night "episode" she is tired and very sleepy the next day even though she has slept and still bothered with a headache just less severe and body aches as well! The neurologist I fired said that she wasn't having real seizures because there was an absence of eliptiform discharge and suggested that it was all in her mind, yet after many hospitalizations and increased medication , a few EEG's and Ambulatory EEG's ( during the ambulatory one my wife had a seizure in the fired neurologist's office, a witnessed gran mal) I have Intercranial Hypertension myself so I know how "doctors" can give the runaround when they are "PRACTICING" Medicine. Nevertheless since my wife has been on the Keppra-Dep regime her seizures have changed she isn't having the Gran mal's like before I noticed on a few occasions, back in Feb. she would say she was REALLY tired ,her head was hurting and  she just wanted to fall asleep, but when she did  I witnessed her having a "episode" that was non convulsive except for the fluttering of her hands and fingers as though she was having one in her sleep so I watched over her and it was as I suspected ... a seizure ,  I started talking to her and rubbing her back, making sure her airway was open until she woke up thirsty and having to urinate really badly, I told her she had a seizure in her sleep and that means her seizure pattern has changed. She goes through these hot and cold moments too rapid changes in her body temp as though she is going through menopause at 34 but then with it comes the headaches, tiredness and thirst. She's not Diabetic either.  Last night she woke up DRENCHED in sweat , having to urinate really badly and thirsty!!! She knows she has seizures but is embarrassed of them and treats them like a dirtly little secret despite my best efforts to love and support her , being there every step of the way inspite my own health setbacks even sleeping in hospital chairs and never leaving her side, because we are TRULY in this TOGETHER. She's scared to go back to her Neurologist because she doesn't want to go to do another Video EEG where she does have seizures and yet no one knows what's wrong with her, she hates the Predator versus Alien head gear that the EEG has to offer with all the wires , and the needles, urinary caths, etc. PLUS we have her 3 kids all Teenagers so its alot! I guess I wrote this because I would like to know if there are anymore people who wake up like this and what are the symptoms of Nocturnal seizures and also I believe I did read somewhere that sometimes people have Epilepsy without the elipitform discharge and with it, any advice , support or answers would be greatly appreicated, I truly love my wife and I don't want to lose her to SUDEP!! I'll get bells if I have to and attach them to her hair strands or fingertips. She's all I have in this world, you know.

TY for reading this and I hope everyone who struggles with E has at least somewhat of a good day !

ty for your encouragement rikk it's appreciated I am searching for a new neuro for my wife now, also she just had a grand mal during the day so I think it safe to say her seizures are really changing, also she was seizure free for 24 days this time but she keeps these headaches and they get really bad right before the seizures and her feet start sweaty profusely I'm just wondering if anyone else goes thru that! Any help/advice is once again appreciated!
