Help for Eliza
Thu, 03/17/2005 - 08:54Hello,
My name is Tom, my neighbour- Eliza - suffers from epilepsy, and she asked me to send her list via internet. Maybe sombody knows how to help her (some organizations, fundations?). If you can send her list in the other places, I would be very thankfull. Here is the list:
My name is Eliza Prze³êcko-Giszczak, I’m. 32 and for 18 years I have been suffering from both-sided temple epilepsy, which proved to be resistant to applied medicaments. For the last 2 years I have been unable to leave the house due to acute and often repeated attacks of epilepsy. The medicaments which were prescribed in Warsaw and in Lublin, have been chanced 24 times. On 18 May 2004 the Neurological Clinic in Lublin moved an application to the National Health Fund in Lublin to refund the cost of a Neuro-Cybernetic Prosthesis. This implant would bring me back to normal live. The Fund granted an immediate operation, that is, implanting the stimulator worth 50,000NPL (13,000 EUR or 17,000 $) The sun seemed to shine on me again. That was on 25 May 2004, but things took a nasty turn. Affected with acute pain, I patiently waited, at home, in the Patients-in wards and other hospital wards till the end of 2004. Then, in January 2005, the Ministry of Health terminated the grant. To me it seems as if the procedures have been delayed for some inexplicable, sinister reasons. Maybe a malevolent game of hide and seek between the Fund and the Hospitals, whatever be the reason, my life lies shattered again. My present situation is pretty much grim. I’ve got a 2,5 years old, lovely little daughter for whom I’m. not in condition to care, so much physically as financially and this is the biggest misfortune for me and my child. My disability pension is a mare 500NPL (130 EUR or 170 $), most of my medicaments are to be paid in full, so, what remains to me is despair and a deep feeling of being the victim of a cruel and heartless inter-institutional tow-game. As much as I abhor it, the bigger is my plea to the people of good will to help me in my effort to obtain this implant, indeed, as there remains nothing else to me as to cry for help. There seems to be no other alternative for me, but ask God and people for help. Once more I turn my pleading eyes towards You to help me rise the needed sum of money.
If You will, please send even the smallest sum to the following bank account:
Oddzia³ Lubelski Polskiego Towarzystwa Neurochirurgów
Bank Millenium S.A. Lublin
No. 37 1160 22020000 0000 6017 8841 “Stymulator nerwu blednego dla Elizy Przeleckiej”
May God bless You

Thank you for reaching out the the epilepsy.com community. Below are a few links which may help you in your search. Perhaps these organizations can assist you in finding ways to pay for your medications as well as alternative treamtents such as the VNS implant. You may also contact a local university in your area to see if there are any other clinical trials being conducted regarding a Neuro-Cybernetic Prosthesis.
