Hello I am new to this site and although I'm not new to the whole epilepsy thing there is still a lot that is bothering me. I have been wondering other have been having the same problems or similar. I recently turned 27 in April I had my first grand maul seizure when I was 13 and it just seems to have got worst as time when on. Well the problem I have been having is finding friends and a relationship things seem to go well until I mention that I have epilepsy. So things have been pretty lonely do to this and I was wondering if anyone has had this problem as I am having.

Mereloaded does make a good point. The faster people are told the better it is and by doing that you have a better chance of telling them what to watch for and which kinds of seizures you may have if any. I guess 13 was a magic number since a lot of the people I have seen in here were 13 when they were diagnosed. I too was a teen. I had been having seizures before but I never thought of them since all I knew about were grand mal seizures. People are scared of something they don't know and believe me they get really scared if you have a grand mal in front of them. I know they are scared of convulsive seizures I have focal seizures and back then mine generalized (covered the entire brain) The main difference in the seizures is in my focal seizure I could see, hear and understand everything. So yes I heard them saying things. I saw th fear in their eyes. I saw some runnign away. Some just kept running but there were some going after the nurse. I saw and felt those that were trying to help. I heard them tell others to get back and try not to hold me down but to put something under my head. Oh and yes asphault is kinda hard when your head is banging on it. Those people had heard my essay some took in the information and used it others were the ones that ran and never came back Work at telling people earlier abot your epilepsy. If they start to back off then ask them questions. "If I had heart disease would you back away? "If I had diabeties? What about people who have cancer can you see their ailment? What about if I was in a wheel chair or wears a hearing aid?" The first few are blind ailments which can't be seen but they are ailments. The ailments you see you alow for becasue they can be seen. "What is different between ailments you can see and those that you can't"    I hope this helps Joe
