I also have a question. I have been taking Keppra 500mg 2x/day for 3 months now, with no other epilepsy medication. My nuerologist said, and I have read other places where they agree, that they don't know how keppra works to control seizures. I can accept this, but what I would like to know is what the drug keppra is doing to my body. I am very uncomfotable with the idea of putting any drug into my body, especially if I have know idea what it does or why I should keep doing. I have not had any seizures since I started the medication and I am happy about that. But what else is the drug doing to me besides preventing seizures?

IF YOU READ THE INSERT FROM THE DRUG COMPANY ON ANY DRUG REGARDLESS WHAT IT IS FOR, YOU WOULDNT WANT TO TAKE IT. THEY ALL HAVE A BUNCH OF SIDE EFFECTS LISTED FROM MILD TO SERIOUS. THE THING TO REMEMBER IS THAT THOSE SIDE EFFECTS HAPPEN IN A SMALL % OF THE POPULATION FOR SERIOUS COMPICATIONS AND ABIT LARGER % FOR THE REST. EVEN THE SIMPLEST DRUGS LIKE TYLENOL HAVE SIDE EFFECTS. I KNOW WHERE YOU ARE COMING FROM THOUGH BECAUSE ANYTIME I GET A PERSCRIPTION FOR ANY NEW DRUG I HAVE THEM CHECK FOR ANY REACTION WITH MY EPILEPSY MEDS. THAN I DOUBLE CHECK WITH THE PHARMASIST.

YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER THOUGH, THE "WHY I SHOULD KEEP DOING IT" AS YOU PUT IT, IS SIMPLE. TO KEEP YOU FROM HAVING SEIZURES. IF IT ISNT BROKE, DONT FIX IT. IT IS VERY HARD TO FIND A DRUG THAT WORKS TO CONTROL SEIZURES IN A LOT OF CASES. YOU ARE VERY LUCKY THAT THEY WERE ABLE TO FIND ONE THAT WORKS WELL FOR YOU. WITH ALOT OF THE DRUGS THEY DONT KNOW HOW EXACTLY THEY WORK BUT THEY KNOW THEY DO WORK FROM YEARS OF TEST STUDIES. WE ARE JUST LUCKY THEY HAVE FOUND NEW ONE THAT DO SINCE ALOT OF THE OLD ONE DONT WORK FOR ALOT OF US.

HOPE THIS HELPS PUT SOME LIGHT ON YOUR DELIMAL.
