have I been having seizures?

Wed, 12/31/2014 - 20:31
For the past few years I have been having these episodes that are starting to concern me. These occuroccurrences have started as 10 to 15 second bits where my head feels like it's being put under a lot of pressure and after it would subside I had a numbing feeling in my arms. As time has gone on it has now recently turned into a complete loss of body control and I basically go limp. If I'm standing I fall. If I'm holding anything I drop it. They only last a couple seconds, 30 at most. I can get up fairly quickly and it's like it never happened. I'm always fully conscious. These happen pretty often, about once a week. Sometimes more or less. My mother is epileptic and has 14 brain tumors. I'm fairly certain it's not genetic but I'm not 100% sure. I'm also 14 years old. Could these be atonic seizures?

What you posted in the first part of your post sounds like seizures I was having when I was a teen. Mine started with a wierd feeling in my hand. They lasted a few seconds. As time went on those seizures got stronger and one day I was having one when my arm started rising. I could not stop it and once shoulder high I went down. No problem. The next one I went down again. About  the third time when my arm got shoulder high I wne down and was in a convulsion which looked like a grand mal. The main difference was I was fully concious of everything happening. I saw and heard everything going on arround me. So what you posted could be seizures.Epilepsy does not mean you got it from your mother or brother. ANYBODY can get epilepsy at any age in their life. A blow to the head where the person might lose conciousness can cause it. The blow to the head can cause a hemmorage ti the brain. That hemmorage can and at time does cause scar tissue. That scar tissue is what can cause electrical impulses to go off wrong in the brain causing a chain reaction that reaction is the seizure itself. As for which type of seizure it is I do not know. As for the type of epilepsy it could be only a neurologist specializing in epilepsy can tell you that. I was diagnosed before they came up with types of epilepsy and types of seizures. My diagnosis was Grand Mal, Petite Mal and Focal motor epilepsy. A focal seizure can generalize and move from one area to cover the entire brain and that is why I posted possiabl focal seizure since I am posting from my experiances since I am not a doctor I hope this helps Joe
