Epilepsy and Job Discrimination/Job Search

Tue, 01/20/2015 - 21:50

In early June, 2014, I had my first seizure. As routine, I had an MRI and an EEG to determine the cause of my seizure. After both tests coming back normal, my neurologist told me I had a 50/50 chance of having another seizure in my lifetime. No medications were prescribed at this time. In mid-July, I had my second seizure while at work. The ambulance was called and I was taken to the emergency room. This time, I was told that I have epilepsy and was prescribed medication. Unfortunately, a co-worker who witnessed my seizure told the corporate office that I had "fondled" myself at some point prior to my seizure. I remember the events that led up to my seizure and "fondling" myself simlply did NOT happen. The day after my seizure, my employer contacted me and told me that I was being suspended with pay until further notice and eventually I was terminated. I lost my health insurance, my driver's license was suspended by the DMV, my job and I was newly diagnosed with epilepsy. I am currently receiving unemployment and looking for a new job, but I live in a small town which doesn't have a lot of jobs in my field. Because of this, in times past, I have had to commute to nearby cities around my hometown in order to find work, however, without a drivers license, I am unable to drive. My unemployment claim is getting ready to run out and I still haven't found work and am concerned. What is a person to do in this situation? Any suggestions or advice would help! Thank you!
