Am I right in feeling that many of those contributing to the forum in the past are no longer doing so and that there are fewer contributions per day than there used to be? If so, might this have something to do with the changes made to the site four or five months ago? I do not wish to be too critical but here are some suggestions, in no particular order:

Downloading of each new page takes too long. It was almost instant under the old system.

Comments/threads are not shown in sequential order downwards. I find this confusing: chapter two in a book should come second, after chapter one, not at the book’s end – in my view.

Multi-Scrolling feature on a single page is not particularly easy to operate

Too many short-cuts on forum front page - too crowded and difficult to navigate, for beginners anyway. Suggest separate page for more detail.

Among the contributions themselves, date/time of latest thread/discussion should be included in Topic list as it used to be, alongside the ‘’Created’’ date; also user-name of author. Saves one having to involuntarily re-open entries read in the past.

Under the old system, the counts of the number of ‘’NEW’’ comments, ones that have appeared since the reader last visited the site, ‘expired’ after a day or so. This was a good idea, presuming, correctly in my view, that an ‘’Unread’’ entry would usually remain so.

One-to-one contact was easy in the past, and quite useful, but obviously open to abuse.

Date of a contributor’s joining the forum was useful as an aid to recognition/jogging memory/context etc.

Font sizes are too small.

‘New comment’/’replies’  do not format properly in the ‘box’ provided: at least they do not for those like me who compose using Word (legible) cutting/pasting content to the ‘box’ when complete.  Sentences are broken inexplicably into new lines.

Otherwise I find this site impressive in its depth and breadth. Also impressive is the way that it has been able, to a large extent, separate the formal and less formal contributions from punters who visit the website.

Just some thoughts.

Chris

Thanks for your feedback Chris.  While there may not be as many individual posts at times, people use different ways to communicate, posting in blogs, groups and most commonly, in the chat rooms!

I appreciate the feedback on what parts of the site you find difficulty. The speed had beenn affected with so many new features and multimedia, but it's improved markedly. If you continue to have problems, please email the webmaster with the type of browser and operating system you are using.

Font size - I think it is just the same, but I'll ask! Wonder if it feels smaller with features in different places?

Adding date of most recent entry has been suggested - I'll see where this is.

Formatting responses should be easier with more formatting options. Try composing directly into the response boxes instead of cutting and pasting.

Again we appreciate the helpful ideas. As you find new things, go to the Bug Reporting Group and add your thoughts there!

Take care and welcome back!
