Poem: An Epileptic State (in the style of a Shakespearian sonnet)

Mon, 03/03/2008 - 19:11

Here is a piece I wrote about a year ago, putting my seizures into poetic perspective.

The tempor'd lobe hath beckoned me to dream
Whilst random thought and memory doth pass
The heightened lights around me cease to gleam
And everything but darkness turns to black

Wherefore doth the incessant demon wake?
Incarnate of my fears; thou stand abreast
And whilst the world around me starts to quake
My weakened mind will fight but cannot rest

O, brain don't fail me for the day is nigh
These scenes from hell and back are so blinding
Please release me from these visions on high
And I'll sign the line on the contract binding

I've sold my soul to the general of sleep
And with his serum my dreams he will keep

What an incredibly creative expression! Thank you for sharing. It is something at least most of us can relate to on some level and a great inspiration to those who are creative to have a positive outlet for something that can feel so negative and alienating. I hope you continue creating and sharing these expressions. To those of you who asked, all are welcome here, including those who have seizures, their families, friends, loved ones, coworkers etc... Anyone who wants to learn, share and grow. It is a great resource!
