Pro-Foods? Bad Foods?

Mon, 10/22/2007 - 22:19
I was just given a list by my Neuro for which foods to avoid for Seizures, only I don't trust it because its titled "Foods to avoid for Migraines", he assures me its the same so does anyone have a legitimate site or list of foods I should avoid to prevent Seizures and what kind of foods I should be eating more of? Thank you so much my fellow Community Members -Michael-Sean

I would be very interesting in seeing your list if you are willing to share. There are some diets that have been studied for seizure control. The ketogenic diet and modified atkins don't really prohibit specific foods so much as carbs, but the GARD diet which eliminates dairy, corn, soy and gluten and the LGIT eliminates foods with a high glycemic index. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Check out my chart of alternative epilepsy treatments.

Here's what the list says should be avoided: Any Cheese except American and Cottage Cheese Caffiene (Coffee, tea, cola) Any Citrus related fruits and juices Yogurt and Sour Cream MSG Nuts Chocolate Banana's raisins, Figs, Avocados Processed meats Alcohol and Vinegar Lima, Fava, Navy, and Broad Beans; Pea pods, sauerkraut, and onions Fresh baked yeast risen bread Aspartame and any medications with Caffeine or Sinus Decongestants Bernard, Im interested in that LGIT diet, does High Glycemic mean high in sugar and carbs?

Cool. Thanks for sharing the list. It looks like a mix of things that would be prohibited by the GARD and LGIT diets. I'm a bit puzzled at the mention of avacado though. I wonder why that one is on the list. The glycemic index is a measure of how fast the carbs in foods affect blood glucose levels. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Check out my chart of alternative epilepsy treatments.
