Uncontrolable Eye Jerking...
Wed, 05/19/2010 - 23:36Hoping someone can help me...I have complex partial seizures, and lately I have a new symptom that is worrying me. I get these episodes when my eyes both start jerking really fast from side to side and I have no control over it. It last only seconds, but it is scary. Is this a seizure that I should be telling my doctor about or is this something completely NOT related to epilepsy? If anyone has any input or advice I would really appreciate it. I have looked all over the web and it doesn't seem like there is a lot of straight forward info and I know that coming here I get a lot more information!

Well, nobody has "seen" them moving because it usually happens too fast (3 seconds or so) so I don't have time to ask anyone. It's a very fast vibrating, side to side movement and it freaks me out! It usually happens when I am looking down. It remains a mystery at this point, but I have so many symptoms with my epilepsy and so many of them come and go. It might just be one of the ones that might linger for a while and then go away....HOPING!!!

I have to ask: Are the eyes actually moving or does it just feel like they are? I ask because what you describe is virtually identical to something that I experience. For me it normally happens when I am laying down or sitting. I have stared people directly in the eye (or tried to) and asked them if they noticed any eye movement and no one has. If I close my eyes I can still "feel" them shaking, but it just feels like it's in my head. Everything I have read points to nystagmus, but somehow for me I just feel it's wrong. I would definitely bring it up with your neuro as it could be related. (I plan to bring it up with mine).
