multivitamin

Mon, 05/10/2010 - 21:47

When asked one neurologist if I could take a daily multivitamin, he responded "no" and went onto say that theres all sorts of stuff in them.  I inferred that he meant the "all sorts of stuff" could cause a seizure.

I asked my current neurologist if I could take a daily multivitamin and she said "yes".

Anyone else had any experience or have any knowledge regarding this?

Hi Jassmit, Before I started the first attempt with AEDs, I tried vitamins, minerals, etc. While a zero carbohydrate diet worked somewhat, how fast and easily vitamins are utilized and eliminated after consuming them became a problem when the edge of saturation was approached, and the effects of overdose of vitamins starts. Vitamins and AEDs interfere with each other in elimination from the body. A few weeks after starting Tegretol and Tylenol in an attempt to control seizures and migraines, I stopped all my vitamins because they interfered with maintaining stable blood-levels of AEDs. About 12 months later, the AED and pain-killer together caused liver and kidney failure, and I was reduced to just the Tegretol (which never helped with my seizures), and the 1989 earthquake stopped the Tegretol. I even later tried taurine for seizure control after the Tegretol, but my organs couldn't handle it after the damages, it didn't help with seizures, and it seems to have gave me "lumps" in various places of my body that slowly went away after stopping the taurine. Now I'm on minimal Keppra, and eating too mineral/vitamin rich foods too often, or too much at once, gives me the effects of my liver/kidney overloaded, and resulting interference with AED blood-levels/effects, so it's another factor with the tight-rope walk with AEDs, this one between AEDs and vitamin/mineral deficiencies. Just make sure you are taking an all natural vitamin. If you purchase from Natures Way, Nordic Naturals, Trader Joes they will be all natural with no artificial crap in them. My son takes a vitmain B 100 from Trader Joes and Omega 3-6-9 fish oil from Nordic Naturals.
