Thank You, Nathan Fountain MD!
Epilepsy News From: Wednesday, April 27, 2016
The Epilepsy Foundation expresses enormous gratitude to Dr. Nathan B. Fountain, professor of neurology and director of the F.E. Dreifuss Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at the University of Virginia. As chair of the Foundation's Professional Advisory Board (PAB), he has been a wonderful and caring friend and leader at the Epilepsy Foundation for many years. Recently, he lent his support to the epilepsy community by leading a team of professional advisors at the National Walk for Epilepsy in Washington, D.C.
It would be impossible to list all his accomplishments. His expertise and help covers a wide range of activities such as:
- Improving diagnosis and treatment for people with refractory epilepsy.
- Helping people learn when to seek specialized epilepsy care.
- Encouraging fitness, exercise, and safety for all people with epilepsy.
- Advocating for improved access to epilepsy treatments and testifying before Congress in support of requiring greater transparency and a timeline for scheduling new therapies at the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
- Co-chairing a new initiative of the Epilepsy Foundation, the Research Roundtable. This project will address roadblocks to research and the development of new therapies and diagnostic tools for epilepsy.
We will sorely miss Dr. Fountain, but also welcome Dr. Christy Heck as new chair of the PAB.
We won’t let Dr. Fountain go too far though. He continues his dedication and support of people with epilepsy and improving care at epilepsy centers as chair of the National Association of Epilepsy Centers.
