It’s that time of year again! School will be getting out and plans for summer camps or other programs need to be made. Hopefully, people are planning some leisure time as well, whether alone, with family, or with friends. Whatever the situation, if you have epilepsy or a loved one does, you need to also plan how to manage seizures during the summer time.
A few questions to consider:
- Is this camp, program, or vacation plan realistic?
- Will seizures interfere with your ability to travel, participate, and have fun?
- Are the planned activities safe? Are safety precautions or equipment set up?
- How will you manage seizures if and when they occur?
These are just a few questions people impacted by seizures can ask. If you do this ahead of time, vacation and summer will hopefully be easier, safer, and more relaxing!
Take a look at these pages to help you plan summer activities:

Please share this information with your health care team for their guidance, especially as you develop seizure response and safety plans. When traveling or going to camp, people often need letters from their health care provider. Make sure you get these early.
I hope you find this information is helpful. This is the practical information and resources you’ll need to manage your epilepsy while you participate in the activities you enjoy.
Best wishes for a safe and fun week!
