The Epilepsy Foundation Volunteer Network is expanding across the country. The primary purpose of the network is to support the programs and services of the Epilepsy Foundation and to hold awareness and fundraising events. Volunteers also help to create relationships and build partnerships from coast to coast.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Community Development, the Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for advancing the mission of the organization through engaging and managing volunteers across the country.  S/he will think strategically, make recommendations, offer creative solutions, utilize technology platforms, and implement best practices to continually grow and improve the program.

The ideal candidate will have at least 1-3 years of experience working in public health, nonprofit and/or volunteer management.  S/he should have a proven record of building successful programs, be a self-starter with a strong ability to work as part of a team, be optimistic and enthusiastic, have a willingness to pitch in and do whatever is needed to help the program succeed, and have a genuine desire to pursue a career with the Epilepsy Foundation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implements goals and objectives for the nationwide Volunteer Network initiative, which reflect the mission of the organization.
  • Develops and demonstrates skills in community organization/relationships/talent identification.
  • Engages, trains and manages relationships with community volunteers to ensure successful event execution, with a focus on event volunteer leadership positions.
  • Works closely with the Senior Director of Community Development to improve processes, increase volunteer engagement, and ensure objectives are met.
  • Conducts national and local outreach to promote the Volunteer Network initiatives and to gain community support of the program and the Epilepsy Foundation.
  • Oversees and executes a portfolio of events, with accountability for income targets, as well as event related mission and advocacy activities.
  • Implements best practices for leadership development, increased participation and event revenue growth; drives and encourages creativity and innovation at the community level.
  • Attends community meetings and events and facilitates exchange of information and resources.
  • Develops and conducts training/presentations to promote Epilepsy Foundation community outreach.
  • Provides day to day over-sight as needed for supporting activities to meet objectives. 
  • Provides ongoing evaluation of the programs and services delivered by volunteers and implements improvements as necessary.


  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Experience in non-profit management preferred.
  • 1-3 years’ experience working in a not for profit service-based organization, or other relevant work experience which contributes to this position.
  • Experience working with volunteers and diverse populations.

  • Solid relationship-building and interpersonal skills
  • Outcome driven; strong project management skills
  • Excellent computer skills: in-depth knowledge of MS Word, Excel, email, social media, database/CRM platforms, volunteer management software, and peer-to-peer fundraising software
  • Solid organizational skills: the ability to work productively in a fast-paced, detail oriented, flexible and collaborative environment, and the ability to manage a multi-faceted workload
  • Ability to work weekends as needed and travel when necessary to support the program


  • Must demonstrate legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must pass applicable pre-employment background screening.
