Epilepsy Foundation Eastern Pennsylvania
About Epilepsy Foundation Eastern Pennsylvania
The Epilepsy Foundation Eastern Pennsylvania (EFEPA) was founded and incorporated in 1972 by local families and a neurologist who saw the need for information and referral beyond the medical aspects of the disorder. The Foundation continues to be the only organization in this region established to address the non-medical needs of people with epilepsy/seizure disorder and their families. There are an estimated 110,000 individuals living with epilepsy throughout the EFEPA’s 18 county service area, and countless more friends, family members and caregivers doing their best to cope with the reality of seizures. The EFEPA’s mission is to ensure that people with seizures are able to participate in all life experiences; and will prevent, control and cure epilepsy through services, education, advocacy and research.
To accomplish its goals the EFEPA provides free educational programs and referral services to individuals with epilepsy/seizure disorder and their families. Key programs include but are not limited to Community Education & Outreach, Epilepsy Educational Conferences & Workshops, First Responder Seizure Training and Recognition Programs, Project School Alert, Legal & Medical Referrals, Children & Family Services, Adult Resource Services, Young Adult Transition Services, Mental Health Programs, and Camp Achieve. As part of its strategic vision, the EFEPA will continue to strive to achieve global awareness, achieve seamless medical referral, expand our human resources, provide more social support programs, further develop transition services and increase partnerships with other organizations to help those with epilepsy.
