In 2016 the Foundation, after a few years of using modified versions of the Take Charge series for younger students, saw the need to design a program suitable for elementary school students. This became the genesis of Take Charge of the Storm Jr. This curriculum is an epilepsy awareness program targeting elementary school aged children in grades K-5. It is part of a multi-year effort to educate children and pursue the incorporation of epilepsy education units into school system health education and science curricula. Students who complete this training will:

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of epilepsy as a medical condition
  • Identify and learn about different types of seizures
  • Know what to do and what not to do when someone is having a seizure

As always, through this program we hope to dispel myths and reduce the perceived stigma associated with epilepsy.
