Renal impairment

About 50% of felbamate is cleared via the renal route.47 Diminished renal function is associated with reduced felbamate clearance and lengthened felbamate elimination half-life.47


Felbamate is poorly soluble in water, has low plasma protein binding, and has a low volume of distribution. This combination of characteristics does not clearly predict the effect of hemodialysis upon felbamate plasma concentration. There are no reports of the effect of hemodialysis on felbamate plasma concentration.48 Caution should be employed when performing hemodialysis on a patient taking felbamate.
