School Nurse and Staff Trainings in Oregon

November 12, 2019 — Epilepsy Foundation Oregon held 13 seizure first aid trainings and trained 46 school nurses, 169 school staff, and staff members at local organizations from June - November 2019.

Bringing Epilepsy and Wellness Education to Families in Ohio

September 24, 2019Epilepsy Foundation Ohio brought over 100 people with epilepsy and their families from around the state together at the Ohio Epilepsy Wellness Expo to learn about epilepsy, treatment and care, and wellness.

Providing Services and Education in 79 Texas Counties

August 26, 2019 — Epilepsy Foundation Central & South Texas provided over 90,000 services to more than 20,000 individuals across 89,000 square miles in 2017-2018. Learn about the amazing range of services they provide to 79 Texas counties, including resources in Spanish. 

Training Law Enforcement and First Responders in Utah and Oklahoma

July 29, 2019 — The Epilepsy Foundation of Utah (EFUT) and Epilepsy Foundation of Oklahoma (EFOK) trained over 2,000 people combined in seizure recognition and first aid in 2018-2019. For this Local Office Spotlight, we highlighted their training of law enforcement and first responders.

Expanding Access to Rural Communities in West Virginia

June 25, 2019 — As a newly established local office, the Epilepsy Foundation West Virginia with its staff of one is working around the clock to reach out to rural and underserved communities in the state to build awareness and support.

Project UPLIFT and Wellness in Colorado

May 24, 2019 — The Epilepsy Foundation of Colorado provides mental health support online and over the phone to people with epilepsy through Project UPLIFT. They also recently received a grant from the Epilepsy Foundation's Wellness Institute to support activities for staff's health and wellbeing.

Reaching More Epilepsy Communities in Indiana

April 23, 2019 — The Epilepsy Foundation of Indiana (EFIN) strives to grow and serve the 69,500 Hoosiers who are living with epilepsy. Through this outreach, they are creating ways to connect locally and digitally to provide more support across the state, including in rural and underserved areas. EFIN volunteers and staff also worked diligently to pass Seizure Safe Schools legislation (House Bill 1082, passed in May 2019).

2019 Skill Building Institute in Georgia and EFWorks

April 2, 2019 — The Epilepsy Foundation of Georgia (EFGA) co-hosted the 2019 Skill Building Institute for the nationwide network of Epilepsy Foundations. EFGA and UCB Inc. piloted a vocational program called EFWorks, which helps individuals living with epilepsy find gainful employment.

Telementoring in New England

February 25, 2019 — The Epilepsy Foundation of New England took part in the telementoring program: Managing Students with Seizures Project ECHO® for School Nurses. During their session on February 7, 2019, 19 school nurses from the state of Maine signed up for the session.

Community Health Worker Training in Texas

January 29, 2019 — Last October, the Epilepsy Foundation Texas-Houston/Dallas-Fort Worth/West Texas (EFTX) trained 60 local community health workers on challenges people with epilepsy face and different strategies for epilepsy self-management. Several of the trained community health workers now work on administering the MINDSET tool, a clinic-based program to help people with epilepsy assess and improve their epilepsy self-management behaviors.

Self-Management & Cognitive Training in Virginia

December 18, 2018 — The Epilepsy Foundation of Virginia (EFVA), with support from students at a local university, provides the Home Based Self-Management & Cognitive Training Changes Lives (HOBSCOTCH) program to help adults with epilepsy manage memory and attention problems.

Epilepsy Education Training in Washington State

November 20, 2018Epilepsy Foundation Washington (EFWA) provided epilepsy education training at a Seattle-area business. This interactive training provides an overview of epilepsy, types of seizures, and seizure first aid.

Reaching Front Line Providers in East Tennessee

October 29, 2018 — The Epilepsy Foundation of East Tennessee (EFET) provides a variety of programs and services, including emergency medical assistance and public education about epilepsy. In October 2018, Pam Hughes, executive director of EFET, provided education and local resources to physician assistants (PAs) in Tennessee and surrounding states at the national conference of TAPA Fall Fest 2018 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Studio E: The Epilepsy Art Program in Kentuckiana

September 18, 2018Epilepsy Foundation of Kentuckiana (EFKY) offers the Studio E: The Epilepsy Art Program to its clients in the Louisville and Lexington areas. Every summer, this multi-week program is led by an expressive therapist, and a nurse or EFKY staff person is at each location for safety and seizure response.

Supporting Seniors in Greater Southern Illinois

August 28, 2018 — The Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Southern Illinois (EFGSI) has trained and educated thousands of individuals, including case management workers, school personnel, first responders, medical liaisons, and employers, on epilepsy and seizures. In an effort to improve epilepsy knowledge among seniors and their caregivers in 2018, EFGSI partnered with 13 senior service providers and trained over 200 senior caregivers, nurses, and administrative personnel.

Care Coordination in Northeastern New York

July 24, 2018Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern New York addresses the importance of care coordination for people with epilepsy.

Seizure Awareness Training in the Workforce in Iowa

June 25, 2018 — The Epilepsy Foundation of Iowa (EFIA) strives to create a seizure-aware workforce by reaching out to a variety of professionals, including therapists, job coaches, and rehabilitation specialists, with information about epilepsy and seizures. EFIA reached out to over 4,000 professionals with over 88 seizure education programs throughout 2018.

Seizure Training for School Personnel in Minnesota

May 30, 2018 — Last month, staff from the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota trained 747 school personnel, including teachers, food service staff, maintenance workers, and bus drivers, with the Seizure Training for School Personnel educational program.

Seizure Awareness Education for Students in Greater Chicago

April 24, 2018 — Staffers from the Epilepsy Foundation Greater Chicago reached over 700 students through a partnership with the Barrington, IL, school district.
