Jordan and Joe - Run for Epilepsy

My name is Jordan Foulds and I am doing my second run for epilepsy challenge to raise awareness and funds for people with epilepsy and for the people who have passed away from sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP). My boyfriend, Joe St Cyr was diagnosed with nocturnal epilepsy 3 years before he passed away on November 2, 2019. His doctors were unable to determine why his seizures occurred.

Joe and I shared a mutual love for running and the outdoors. We both ran college cross country and Joe also did snowshoe racing at Paul Smith’s College. Running has helped me through my grief and made me feel connected to him.

My last run for epilepsy challenge spanned 100 days leading up to his birthday on November 4. This second challenge will run through the month of March and beginning of April, because that’s when the steelhead fish run in New York, and they were Joe’s favorite fish. Joe was a professional fishing guide in the Adirondacks and started his own business, Adirondack Troutfitters, with his best friend Ryan Baker.

I make a daily social media post with information about my run and a fact about epilepsy. So far, we have raised over $7,500 for the Epilepsy Foundation through the fundraising page I’ve created for the run, as well as an Instagram fundraiser.

I’m hoping other families don't have to go through the pain of losing a loved one to SUDEP and more people can learn about epilepsy and how it impacts people.
