Take it from here... is a coloring book composed of selected works of art showcased at the 2nd annual Hidden Truths, the Mind Unraveled show at the Susan Nelson Gallery in Newport Beach, California, on October 5, 2013.
The coloring book, Take it from here... was designed as an educational tool for the general public and an inspirational force for people living with epilepsy who are not artists. The art allows one to overcome the roadblocks in verbal communication to create a dialogue between the artist and observer, artist and physician, and artist and society as a whole. In this framework, the artwork becomes an inspirational force, a therapeutic or educational tool to express one's personal experience with epilepsy or to create a deeper understanding for others of what it is like to live with epilepsy.
Take it from here... is a 50-page coloring book that includes the works of 22 artists with epilepsy. Anyone who purchases Take it From Here... has the opportunity to connect with the artist via social media to share their perception and experience in completing the image and post their completed pictures on Hidden Truths Facebook page. Volume I is geared towards teens and adults, although the stories told through the art can appeal to all.
The creator of Take it from here..., Dr. Julie Thompson-Dobkin, says, "The journey from front to back of the coloring book will tell the stories of lives lived with epilepsy. In completing the book, the many hidden truths of epilepsy will be revealed."
The beneficiary of the project is Epilepsy Therapy Project, an initiative of the Epilepsy Foundation, in support of its ongoing work in translational research. Together, the Epilepsy Therapy Project and Epilepsy Foundation have unparalleled reach and leadership through a nationwide supportive care network, broad-based public awareness, education and focus on accelerating the clinical development of innovative therapies for people living with epilepsy.
