Epilepsy Foundation Florida
Over 225,000 People in Florida are Living with Epilepsy
Epilepsy Service of West Central Florida dba Florida Epilepsy Services (FES)/ Epilepsy Foundation Florida (EFF) is committed to promoting health and facilitating lifestyle choices of persons with seizures and their families to improve the quality of their lives. We provide services to the following counties: Hillsborough, Highlands, Hardee, Polk, Pinellas, and Pasco. We are state-funded by the Florida Department of Health.
Florida Epilepsy Services provides access to neurological services and counseling for persons with epilepsy, which are essential to supporting their independence and reducing ER visits. Our direct client medical services include case management, doctor visits, labs/testing, support groups, prevention and education, Seizure First Aid, and CDSMP (Chronic Disease Self Management Program) management.
Our agency was founded in 1973 by a parent of a child with epilepsy. The parent formed a support group with other parents and, in 1974, advocated for persons with epilepsy to the Florida Legislature. As a result, a statute was passed stating the State of Florida must provide services to persons with epilepsy. These advocacy actions are still active today through ongoing volunteer board members and staff. We have developed long-term partnerships with local neurologists and clinics to serve our clients.
From groundbreaking research to SUDEP support, local educational programs and a 24/7 Helpline, FES/EFF is here to serve you.
We are leading the fight to END EPILEPSY® in Florida by supporting and mobilizing the epilepsy community through educational activities, direct services, advocacy, as well as research to accelerate therapies to stop seizures, find cures, and save lives. The Foundation also seeks to educate the general public to better understand epilepsy and seizure disorders, including knowing proper seizure first aid.

Programs & Resources
Chronic Disease Self- Management Program (CDSMP)
The Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) is a workshop for adults with at least one chronic health condition, which may include epilepsy. It focuses on disease management skills including decision making, problem-solving, and action planning.
Starting on April 16th, 2024
Participants attend a 2 1⁄2-hour interactive workshop once a week for 6 weeks to learn problem-solving, decision-making, and other techniques for managing problems common to people with chronic diseases. These workshops are offered in person and virtually and run by 2 trained leaders. In a typical workshop, participants set a realistic goal for the upcoming week and develop an action plan for meeting that goal. They report on their progress at the following workshop and ask for feedback from the group to help address any challenges.
