Pregnancy and non-epileptic seizures

Hey Everyone, I'm new to this page, I apologize if this is long. I have not been diagnosed with Epilepsy, however I do have a unique story. I started having seizures the week I was brought home from the hospital after being born. I was on medication for a year, then weaned off. I never had any side effects or any sign of seizures until 2015. I'm 28 now. On 08/31/15 I had 3 Tonic Clonic Seizures. I was out shopping with my husband, but started feeling tired. When we got back home, I curled up in the recliner. I sat up, said my husband's name and went into the first seizure. It lasted 1-2 minutes. The ambulance took me to the ER. While in the ER, I told my husband it was happening again. Sure enough, I went into another one! While they were taking me to have my CT scan. I went into another one in the hall! I ended up staying in the hospital for about a week. They did a CT, MRI, and EEG. All came back normal. I've been on Lamictal 200mg BID since then. I haven't had any auras or seizures since that day. I was taking an antibiotic for a sinus infection and also cough syrup during the time of the seizures. My neurologist/epileptologist cannot say if the seizures were caused from the medication, since I had them as an infant as well. Me and my husband are talking about having a baby. I know there are risks for clef pallets while taking Lamictal. I have been on 5gm of Folic Acid and Prenatal Vitamins since 2015. My concern now, is having seizures if I become pregnant. I have been reading way too much of this online. I wanted to see if anyone has had a similar situation or had some advise. I know this was long, but thanks for reading if you did :)

Hey there, this is definitely a good conversation to have with your doctor. If you're planning on becoming pregnant, there are certain anti-seizure medications that are proven to be quite safe for pregnancy, while some are more risky. Taking folate is a great first step. Talk to your Dr next about medication options. I know a number of people who had multiple healthy pregnancies while on these kinds of medications. You're right that having a seizure while pregnant is more dangerous than most of these medications, so your doctor will work with you to pick a medication and a dosage that controls your seizures and is safe for your baby.Best of luck,B

Hi! I’m new too. I’m 35 too and had seizures since 15. Sorry if my english is not that correct, I’m not a native speaker. I used to take Depakote and I’m trying to chance to a pregnancy (more) safe medication. In my country it’s not very common Keppra, but i have faith it will work for me. Depakote was perfect, but I first tried to switch to Trileptal, didn’t work....now I’m trying Keppra.I’m taking 5mg of folic acid as well and planning a pregnancy.Any experiences with pregnancy and Keppra to help?
