Hormonal Epilepsy?

Sat, 05/27/2017 - 22:37
I had my first seizure Nov 2011 while sleeping. Went through the ringer of tests with no results. Nothing again until May 2013 one week before I found out I was pregnant. Then between pregnancy and breastfeeding I had about 2 dozen seizures over the coarse of a couple years, all while sleeping. Then I went for months with no seizures at all until one week before I found out I was pregnant, which unfortunately did not stick. Now I find out that I have at least one seizure on the months that my husband and I have sex when I ovulate. This month was so bad that I had 4 seizures in 3 days and was put on Keppra. They even did blood work the day before my period started and my doctor said all the results came out normal. Anything I read that has to do with hormonal seizures the woman has abnormal periods, doesn't ovulate, etc but I do not have any of those issues. I do not know what is going on and I am having bad side effects from the Keppra. Part of me wants to just ripe out my ovaries to see if that would stop the seizures but I still want a second child. At least all the seizures are when I am asleep either right after I fall asleep or just before I wake up. I haven't done more tests than blood work because I am pretty certain they aren't going to find anything that will figure out what is going on. Anyone else have anything similar to what I am experiencing?

if you are not already, get in to see an epileptologist. it would be even better if they are focused on catamenial epilepsy or at least work well with other specialists. the people I've seen noting hormonal related seizures on boards do not mention abnormal periods, just everything very specific/predictable to a certain point(s) in their cycle.

I have type two catamenial epilepsy, so seizures when I ovulate. I have irregular periods but before I was stabilises on Keppra I always knew when they were coming... 14 days after my seizure!
