Doing weird things in my sleep, seizures ?

Wed, 07/10/2019 - 04:15
Hello ! I have Temporal lobe epilepsy , complex partial seizures, im 34. During the day ( as long as i take my meds) I am seizure free. I have lived alone since my epilepsy diagnosis 3 years ago, till last december when i moved in with my partner. Hes told me i make noises in my sleep and move like im running or riding a bike , he said he didnt wake me as it looked funny... ( hes new to epilepsy symptoms etc) lol. I just wondered if this was a seizure? I will also sleep walk and try go to the toilet and ask him where it is and if hes coming with me or not lol, i wont remember in the morning till he tells me and i have a vague memory of some of what i do. I do feel tired in the day but i always have. I was just curious if all this is epilepsy related as i am still learning myself too.

I used to have mostly

I used to have mostly nocturnal seizures.  I was fine all day and then at night once every month or two I had generalized seizures which woke the whole family up.  Those were my teen years and are long gone, right.Today I have the Responsive Nerve Stimulator which records all seizure activity.  Since surgery I was taking many naps through the day.  I didn't have any seizures that I knew of.  Then at my first doctor visit after surgery the doctor told me I had six seizures which I was not aware of.  They must have happened in my sleep.  These are not the generalized seizures which would alarm anyone in the house.  These were the focal seizures in my left temporal lobe which cause confusion and memory loss.  I don't think it is too unusual to be seizure-free while awake but experience them in sleep.  It has to do with the unique brainwave state that comes when we fall asleep or are in REM.  That's why when they do a diagnostic EEG (often called "wake/ sleep EEG") they allow the patient to sleep or go through that stage where you just start to fall asleep.
