TLE and Hypothalamic Amenorrhea

Mon, 12/11/2017 - 18:06
My daughter was diagnosed 6-1/2 years ago with TLE at the age of 10. She started her menses at age 14, but was never regular. We kept mentioning it to her pediatrician yet were continually told, "it's normal." Finally, after starting year 3 and having no cycles or spotting that lasted a day or 2, we finally got the pediatrician to do some bloodwork and finished with a gynecologist. Turns out that she has hypothalamic amenorrhea. We're going to see a gynecologist at the end of January who specializes in pediatric and adolescent issues as she's only 17, and this doctor works in the same hospital as her neurologist. I'm curious if any other teenage girls with TLE have experienced this. From what I have seen in the research, this form of epilepsy is commonly seen with HA.
