Chinese vice premier, UN secretary-general discuss disaster efforts

Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu met here Wednesday with UN Deputy Secretary-General John Holmes.

He said that China was one of the countries most severely affected by natural disasters. The government has exerted great effort to comprehensively improve natural disaster risk management and disaster reduction ability, always adhering to the policy of putting people first and putting life above everything.

I don't think that it is realistic that china has either/both the ability or desire to protect it's people.  It is not just a comment on the goverment, but on the size of the county, the number of people,  I hope that we are still best equiped to respond to natural disasters.(don't laugh)  Given that it in some situations here it borders on near impossible.  Katrina was just one example.  I hope the chinese will work toward there goal.  Continue the discussion.   rikk
