Dealing w/Epilepsy in general

Mon, 08/25/2014 - 18:47

I'm Meg, 16yrs old and a junior in HS. I have grand mal seizures mostly due to stress and sunlight. I also have myoclonic seizures but a really rare form in my eyes that happens everyday. I just thought it would be cool if everyone got on here and just talked about dealing w/epilepsy as a teen and during the school year in general. Maybe people could introduce themselves and just talk about their daily struggles? I just need to talk to some people who understand what the hell I am going through. Don't leave me hanging!

Meg I come in and check the forum and answer peoples questions. I land on the teen zone from time to time. When I was a teen IT SUCKED alot but I also knew I was like everybody else. The only difference was they could get a license and I couldn't. The other difference was I has seizures and they didn't. Oh and I could fix their cars when they didn't even know which wrench I wanted when I asked for a 1/2 inch open end wrench. You have a disability which can hinder you in some ways. I too have it but I learned how to deal with it. Oh but it was really hard. You see back then I had focal seizures that generalized.(went into a convulsion) They looked like a grand mal with one big difference. In those I never lost conciousness. I saw the fear in their eyes and on their faces. I heard what they said. I saw the ones who were trying to help me and I knew who backed away. By seeing and knowing what happened I knew what they did and I approched them and discussed my issue with them. Where they afraid of Fred since he wore glasses? Or what about Mary since she wore a hearing aid? Johnny has uses crutches? All of their ailments can be seen I just happen to have one that you can't see so why are you treatin me different then you treat them? By asking those questions and telling them what I had and giving them information they looked at things a little different. I do hope you understand that things are changing for the better and I also hope you get seizure free. Joe
