Long Term Effects of Temporal Lobectomy

Fri, 05/29/2009 - 21:33
Hi all!  I am 28 years old.  I had a left temporal lobectomy August 2005 for partial seizures.  Three years later, I am still completely seizure free and medicine free!  If you are post-surgery, maybe you can answer some questions for me like- what kind of scars do you have?  Is your forehead still a little uneven?  What about bumps under the skin? Would love to hear from others in the same situation!

Hi, I am a 25 yr.old female.. had a right temporal lobectomy in Sept. 2007, so...a year and a half ago. I have had 3 seizures in that time, but BIG improvement! My surgeon and doctors were awesome.. the surgeon made my incision behind my hairline so it is well-hidden. Yo probably wouldn't see it unless I pointed it out. The scar goes from just about the center of my forehead around to the front of my right ear (in a C-shape) and it's a fairly thin line. obviously, no hair grows ON the scar line, but definitely all around it. I also have what they call a "burr hole" on the top, left side of my skull where the drain mechanism was inserted. That hurt SO bad when they pulled it out a few days after surgery!! That scar is more deep and wider.. and about 2 inches in length. You can feel all of the divets in my skull beneath the scars.. like trace your finger along the whole split in my skull on the right side. It's kinda crazy feeling.. and definitely still a little sensitive. Mostly just sensitive to pressure (like head massages, shampooing, etc). sometimes it will have just a sore, sensitive feeling to it, kinda tingly. What are your scars like? How long were you in the hospital, and what diagnosis did you have? where did you have the surgery?~Stephanie~*

Can you please let me know where you had your surgery done. I am taking my son to Cleveland Medical center. He has been having seizures for past 10 years. The local doctor said they will do a subdural electrodes to figure out the location of his seizures since from MRI, EEG they can't figure out the lobe its coming from. What kind of diagnostics they used? Tesla 7?
