Small seizure brought on by sound

Fri, 12/21/2018 - 21:16
About 7 months ago started having what I think are small seizures. Certain sounds like a chip bag or someone eating would start to trigger a sound in my head that I have heard before and I will stare into space, still aware of what's going on, I feel almost nauseous and Its like I get the chills then my head will start to shake. My son was born early and spent 8 months in the NICU and the sound I hear in my head is a sound I heard there. Its almost like PTSD. I just want to know if anybody has experienced anything like this. I also want to say my brother started having full on seizures not long before this started happening to me and doctors can't find anything on tests and scans.

So many are sensitive to

Submitted by Jazz101 on Sat, 2018-12-22 - 16:51
So many are sensitive to various things, such as sound and sight. Just as flashing lights can initiate seizure activity, well, in some cases it's sound. A fried who underwent an MRI recently got a seizure due to the sounds that you are subjected to.That said, he doesn't get seizures just because of any sound. It's something to speak with your neurologist about. Scans and certain tests can't give you hard data sometimes unless you actually experience a seizure while undergoing the test. Many of us with Epilepsy have recorded EEGs and MRIs that look pretty normal. But during a video EEG where the meds were lowered and the electrodes were attached to me, well, they were all recorded. So if you are really interested in finding out whether anything can really be displayed, maybe you should speak with your neurologist about a video EEG where they can decided how to lower your meds. Best Regards

As though this could be

As though this could be epilepsy related, you could also be experiencing what is known as Autonomous sensory meridian response or ASMR. Certain senses delivered throughout the head and neck come about which can not only deliver a euphoric feeling but also a nauseous feeling depending upon your sensitivity level. I on many occasions have heard people eating or sipping coffee and have had a feeling as though I was using narcotics, other times those feelings would make me nauseous like I was car sick and I would sometimes vomit from the feeling of dizziness.Ask your neurologist if this experience could be something ASMR related, and I would recommend trying to avoid those sounds. If there is a possibility of vibration waves coming from sounds that is effecting you, try experimenting with ear plugs to dampen the sound waves. Remember to record all experiences within a small pocket sized notepad to show your doctor they can make copies and read the entirety of it to work towards a solution as to what may be troubling you.Good Luck

I haven't seen a neurologist

Submitted by rhyblank on Mon, 2019-03-04 - 14:33
I haven't seen a neurologist yet but the doctor I see is a family medicine doctor and he prescribed me keppra until I can see a neurologist. There was one day I got so busy and forgot to take both doses and the next day I had a full on seizure. My sons nurse said I just stiffened up for a couple minutes, came out of it, and said I walked to my bedroom. I don't remember any of that. I woke up so confused and all of my muscles hurt. I need to see a neurologist soon so I can figure out why I just started having seizures out of no where
