Seizure or epilepsy?

Thu, 04/30/2020 - 07:57
I am Ravi from India and new to this forum. I had a seizure three months back. I am 27 years old with no previous seizure history and no family history. One day I was starting my two wheeler and waving to my mother. When I opened my eyes there were nurses and doctors around me and I was in an emergency ward. But I remember that I was asking my father to stop the car while I was being taken to hospital (when at the time I don't know quite clearly) as I was feeling nauseous. My head was aching severely. I had the habit of drinking and smoking. I smoke very heavily. Then as I was transferred to my hometown, the intensity was reduced for smoking and the consumption of alcohol came to a dead stop. One week before I had the seizure, I started using a herbal hair oil that contained sage, an essential oil which I had seen on a research website that it provokes seizure. Now please do clarify me, I am suffering from epilepsy or it's just an one time seizure considering all the circumstances.

Hi, Thank you for posting and for sharing your story,we understand this must have been scary for you to experience. We cannot determine if you have epilepsy or not. It’s best that you follow-up with your healthcare provider to discuss this further and if you experience any changes in seizure types, frequency, behaviors, moods or symptoms. It's also important to note that not everyone who has a seizure has epilepsy. A person can have a seizure from a physical cause such as an acute medical illness or trauma that begins before the seizure. It could also be related to a substance or event their body is responding to or withdrawing from. In these cases, seizures are called “provoked”: https://www.epilepsy.com/learn/diagnosis/seizure . Additionally, you may always contact our 24/7 Helpline, where trained information specialists are available to answer your questions, offer help, hope, support, guidance, and access to national and local resources. 1-800-332-1000, contactus@efa.org. epilepsy.com/helpline

-Epilepsy is idiopathic-Suddenly eliminating a high intake of alcohol can trigger seizures-Alcohol, in addition to many other things, prevents your body from absorbing calcium-A sudden increase in calcium level have been reported by many epileptics to have caused their seizures-Search the internet for a combination of any of these words: 'milk', 'seizure', 'milk-alkali', 'dairy', 'calcium', 'epilepsy', 'calcium friend or foe'Good luck, because my first bullet point was 'Epilepsy is idiopathic'.Irma
