Scared Teen

Tue, 10/03/2017 - 02:02
I've had a sezuire when I was two, four, and eight. Each time I went and saw a neurologist. They all told me that if I didn't have another one in six months, I wouldn't have one for the rest of my life. At age 16, I had another one, and we ignored it. On my 17th birthday I had another one. It's now October of 2017 and I have had over 14 in the past month. We are unsure if I am epileptic or not. When I don't eat, sleep too little, or get to stressed at work, (I am a host at Applebees) I have sezuires. They're random. I am about to have the third EEG of my life and I'm scared. If it's not epilepsy I won't know what to do from here. It should be noted that the sezuires I had when I was 16 and when I turned 17 both happened when I was high on cannabis. Any ideas?

untreated seizures can get

Submitted by Amy Jo on Tue, 2017-10-03 - 11:07
untreated seizures can get worse. people with epilepsy often have more seizures when tired, stressed or on drugs - those are common triggers and everyone learns the specific triggers that their body has after a time.you’ll need to get this checked out properly, which can start with your regular doc. you’ll need a to get a different (aka better) neurologist, get tested to eliminate other possible issues, and get at least one eeg (more often are needed). sometimes eegs are normal for people who have epilepsy but you should mention being tired and ask for a least a sleep deprived test to increase the chance it uncovers something of use. around 90% of people with epilepsy have something show up by the third well chosen eeg. there is no test that confirms epilepsy for all patients all the time, it is more of eliminating the other possible conditions and often one gets something on the eeg. a good history is often the best indication; the art of medicine still has a place in the world.
