Nocturnal Seizures vs Nightmare

Tue, 11/14/2017 - 00:51
I haven't been diagnosed yet but i will begin my neurology referral soon. Back story- I have been a VERY lucid dreamer since i was about 15 (i'm now 29). I've had sleep paralysis, hallucinations, conversations etc; I've come to terms with that just being my normal. I moved overseas 3 months ago and broke my foot 5 weeks ago. I've had 4 different episodes in the last 13 days but they are getting increasingly more concerning. I haven't been sleeping well at night at all (i chalked it up to breaking my foot) and lately i get uncontrollably tired and will fall asleep nearly without warning. All 4 of the have led to the normal sleep paralysis and lucid dreaming. The new things - My head jolts back and forth and i clinch my jaw to the point that i think I'm going to break my teeth (aware that its happening but can't control because of sleep paralysis), when i come to, my heart is racing and i gasp for air. Once fully awake i have a terrible headache, slight confusion and my teeth/jaw are sore. All 4 of the instances have happened during a daytime nap- not night time sleeping. Has anyone heard of this? It's new and pretty frightening. I called my doctor today and had a phone consult with him, i will see him on Friday morning and he mentioned that a neurology referral will be placed. Thanks for reading!

Well nocturnal seizures

Well nocturnal seizures happen when one is sleeping. They also happen right before or after sleeping. Sleeping means sleeping and not just at night. I have read posts from people and yes they have them during a nap. Those sleep paralysis could be focal seizures too.
