My story

Mon, 12/24/2018 - 16:11
Four days ago while at work I had a seizure. Ended up in the ER. Blood work and CT scan came back normal. This was my first seizure ever. A littld over a month ago I went to prompt care and the Dr said I had the start of an ear infection and a sinus infection, so he gave me an anti biotic and sent me on my way. Finished the antibiotic and still wasn't feeling the greatest. So I went back for my follow up and he checked my ears and throat and said its just "seasonal allergies" and said to take an OTC allergy pill. So I did. Fast forward to four days ago, it was an off day, wasn't really feeling the greatest and the day prior I started having what I call twitches in my legs, arms and back. They got worse the more tired I got. Went back into work from my lunch and that's all I remember. The next thing I know I'm in the back of an ambulance on the way to the hospital. Told the ER Dr about the ear and sinus infection and my ears are fine now, just a little fluid. Oh and I'm 38 and this is the first time I've ever had a seizure.

Sweetblue,I'm glad you are

Sweetblue,I'm glad you are doing well now.  I'm not sure how you feel about all that has happened previous to the seizure.  It would be tempting to think that maybe some infection or treatment caused more problems leading to seizures.  But in the world of epilepsy many of us know that infections, sleep deprivation, or any kind of stress (including holiday stress) can reduce "seizure threshold" which means for we who already have been diagnosed with epilepsy there is an increased likelihood of seizures.  This may be the first time you've had a seizure, but there is a possibility that a susceptibility has been there for a long time and it took some extra stress to trigger the seizure.  I hope that you do better and that this is a temporary and short-term problem you have.  But keep track of it all and be prepared in case it develops into an ongoing problem.  The Epilepsy Foundation offers great resources for us all.Merry Christmas,Mike
