Left Temporal Epilepsy Starting in 10 Month Old

My son was 10 months old when I witnessed his first seizure. At the time his pediatrician told me about febrile seizures since it occurred with a 102 temp and that it is common at a young age but doesn't mean epilepsy. We had a quiet month and assumed it was something we would rarely see happen again. After his 1st birthday he had about 3 more febrile seizures in a 3 month period but all caused by a virus or something that causes fevers but all started with a terrified scream/cry that made my hair stand on end. At about 15 months old I witnessed a seizure and quickly took his temp but found it was normal and that prompted a full work up of a Head CT, MRI, and EEG. Luckily both the CT and MRI showed normal brain structure and no tumors. His EEG did show epilepsy left frontal temporal region. The day we finally got his EEG results he had 4-5 seizures one after the other when he had a temp of 102 that motrin and Tylenol could not bring down and in the ER they started IV Keppra to snow his brain and make it so it wasn't possible for any seizure activity to peak through. He was like a drunk rag doll that day but his brain needed a break. We then started oral Keppra the next day when his fever broke and we have been using it ever since. We are very lucky that Keppra has worked so well for us and so far no aggression that I have seen. There has been no nonfebrile seizures since, but a few febrile seizures when he has pneumonia or a virus but the doctors said antiseizure medication can not eliminate those. He is now 2 and has had a nice break from febrile seizures so far for almost 7 months and at 22 months old (with the help of an occupational therapist with the Birth-3 program) finally started walking! I can't tell you how excited I was to see him able to walk, it gave me so much hope for the things that he could continue to achieve. My most recent concern is his speech. A few weeks before his 1st seizure at 10 months old he started to say momma and my heart melted. I have watched that video of him saying momma over and over and still start to cry worrying about how his life will be affected by his epilepsy as he grows. I have still not heard that word or any other words since that time. I realize with his epilepsy being in his left temporal lobe, that it is a speech center but his neurologist so far has not offered any info when I have sent messages stating my concern for his speech development. We won't see her for a check up until he is 2 1/2. We have started the process of doing speech therapy through his pediatrician and I am still optimistic but has anyone one else encountered this delay in speech when their child has said a word prior to the seizures? I was first thinking his brain was just scrambled when he had his febrile seizures and that maybe if we could get a good gap of time without them, that he would start to catch up. He babbles a few syllables like 'ah' and 'eh' and he will sometimes repeat them back to me but doesn't seem to be learning or using any other new syllables. He did say 'bah' and 'ya' for a few weeks but that was almost 5 months ago since I have heard those. I know we are extremely lucky to have a medication to control his seizure activity so far but I don't like having so many questions about his development without any concrete answers and worrying that I am missing something and failing him.

My daughter had a lot of issues with speech, we started therapy and that helped a lot. She still has set backs with each seizure but gains speech back over time. Keep fighting. You know your child best don't let doctor's tell you otherwise.
