Husband's epilepsy is halting my dream of having kids

Thu, 02/01/2018 - 13:13
Hi all, Unfortunately my husband had been diagnosed with epilepsy since late teens. Ten years down the line he's been doing really well for the last 6 months. This is mainly due to the fact I was so upset and scared from his last one so he decided to cut down on drinking, however, today he had more than one fit after drinking alcohol the night before. I'm after some advice from anyone who has children with a partner with epilepsy as we were planning to start a family soon...I'm wondering how you cope and if you have any tips or suggestions? My biggest fear is that he would be holding our baby and have an episode. I know he will make a great father but I know I will be so on edge (especially mornings or nights where he doesn't get any sleep) it's also going to be a struggle because he can't drive but that doesn't bother me too much. I'm more worried about him. Is it difficult to raise a child when worrying about your husband? Thanks

Well don't think about that

Well don't think about that dropping the baby much. Parents drop their kids and they don't have epilepsy. Mom dropped my sister. Oh and we lived on the second floor and Robbie fell off the porch. I used to jump off the roof. DO get with him and his neurologist and discuss the drinking and limit his drinks
