Auras

Hi there im new to here and was wondering if maybe anyone elts has a similar issue . When I was 47 one dsy I walked into the bathroom and without memory i was back in my then gf's bedroom unable to speak properly. This grew more powerful and frequently until I was diagnosed with Aura type seizures. I was put on meds and with some tweaking they slowed down ..I stopped all together taking the meds to see if it would come back as i truely feel these meds block certian parts of my brain ( another topic ) . i stopped for around 3 months without a symptom . but with pleading from my current gf i went back on and the lowest dose possible as she was certian it would come back ( she is the one who has to see me and watch me go through them which can be hours sometimes ) i no longer have any ( to my knowledge ) seizures at the age of 52 ...so 5 years right out of the blue i get it and just as fast it goes away ! Does this sound right ? Also reading on aura type seizures mine are drastically longer in duration sometimes hours but from what my gf says on average from the very start to end of the entire seizure until i get back to normal is around an hour on average. Now i have none ..and id stop all meds if i was alone ..i still think im right and she thinks she is right .

Yes that does seem odd to me.  Did you and doctor ever come up with any ideas of the cause?  Sometimes this can indicate how the seizures will develop and how likely they are to continue without treatment.  I'm not sure what you mean "aura type seizures".  Do you mean you have a sensation before the seizure develops into spell where you lose awareness?  When the gf sees you in seizure are you shaking and jerking, or do you just stare?  That sounds pretty incredible that you are in the seizure for hours.  There is a "post-ictal" or after-seizure period which will leave a person in confusion and forgetful.  That would be normal.  I'm not a doctor but I am a patient who has had epilepsy for over 50 years.  I think it is wise for you to continue at least some of the meds.  Epilepsy is the name of the condition where a person is prone to having seizures.  Seizures can go away for months and then, surprise, it is back again.  Be careful.

Hi Michael thank you for the reply , the auras ( or so I was told that name ) i get a very powerful dejavu much stronger than my normal ones ive had my entire life ..then i run and i run because I feel a force above me as if it is going to snuff me out of existance ..its a scary feeling that lasts only a few seconds ..and then it starts ( i always remember the dejavu ..and the feeling above ..and the start of my trying to get away from whatever it is ..)  That lasts maybe 3 to 5 seconds ..then i go blank ..but my girlfriend says ( after i stop running ) that i stammer my words like im tryung to call my mother ..all i will say is mamamamama ..she will get me to sit down so im safe and i will be talking the entire time ..she says its almost as if i revert into a child again ..and i have absolutely no idea who i am or where i am ..this can last up to a few hours ..then i come out of it slowly ..sometimes i can remeber small bits of the time im coming out ..like if my girlfriend asks me of i know her..but i will feel like im in trouble ..all the feelings vary but that child like reversion is the main state i go to and its as if i age back to normal as i slowly gain my memory back ..i guess almost catching up to my current self is the best way to say it. I self medicated from the lamotragine because i was having bursts of violent behaviour which i have never had in my life . it got to the point where i was scared so i stopped the medication abruptly ..then went back on ( all violent feelings/ behavior stopped while off the meds ) and on such a low dose now it has no effects on that behaviour ..i am making another appointment to see why or what is goung on with myself . my last major seizure was a year ago and almost bit my tounge off ..its all very strange how I just seemed to get it like a cold and 5 years later it seems to have just left me..except the fear i may still have it and its dormat ..i just dont know
