14 yr old daughter w/Juvenile Mioclonic epilepsy

Mon, 04/16/2018 - 23:24
I'm new here and thought I could find some kind of comfort in others in my shoes. My daughter had her 1st tonic clonic seizure on Christmas morning in 2017, 5 days before turning 14. Had an EEG, and she was diagnosed with JME. Since then, she has averaged a full, tonic clonic seizure, about every 2 months. Her latest on was just this past Saturday night, on April 14th. Since I assumed her type of epilepsy caused seizures shortly after waking up, it was shocking when she had one at the dining table in the middle of playing Uno, at 950p. I have not put her on medication.. yet. I have been researching natural ways to help with this, vitamins and such, but I AM looking into medication as well. I feel extremely uncomfortable putting my daughter on a medication that has so many bad side effects, but I am also struggling with not putting her on anything. I'm a single parent, work full time and I don't know what to do. My daughter's school has been very supportive and we've arranged a teacher or counselor to walk with her between classes, since she uses stairs, (her school is 3 stories) daily, I cannot risk her having a seizure on the stairs and falling. I know I'm a bit all over the place, but I just feel so helpless. I just want to keep my daughter in my pocket, to protect her from all of this but I can't and it kills me... sorry for the length, I needed to get out my feelings, I guess..
