Why so long for EEG results?

Fri, 08/04/2006 - 13:30
My daughter had an EEG one week ago. We're told to look for the results in 2 to 3 weeks. Is this a normal time period for result turn around? Thanks,

Did your neurologist order it or a pediatrician? The neurologist can read it on the spot and give you some idea as to what is up even if (s)he did not write the formal report. When my daughter had a 24 hour EEG, the doc read it right there on the spot the next morning. If your pediatrician orders it, then he/she may be at the mercy of a different doctor. I hope it all comes out ok.

The Pediatric Neurologist conducted the EEG and she has an MRI scheduled this week. The PM gave us an 800 number to check for results but none have been posted yet. Thanks for responding. L

If I were you, I would call the drs nurse and say you are really nervous waiting for the results and is there any way she/he can help you get the results sooner. There usually is someone with a soft heart who will help you out- who will put a message through to the doctor that the waiting is increasing your stress level. How old is your child? My 5 year old had the MRI back in November. They should NOT make you wait this long again. I knew the results walking out the hospital that day for the MRI. While it was not the final results, they basically said that if they had seen anything unusual or alarming, they would not have let me just walk out that day. Not that they would check her in but meaning they would have let us know.
