Stubborn Teenager

Help! I have a 16 year-old daughter who was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 9. Her epilepsy is well-controlled by medication, which she is refusing to take. She has had seizures over the past few months that could have been avoided by her taking the medication. It’s so frustrating! It’s a battle twice a day and has been really hard this summer as my husband and I both leave for work before she is up in the morning. Please help - I am open to any suggestions!

Hi!  I have a 16 yo son and we are struggling with the same thing.  He was diagnosed at 13 with JME and his seizures are triggered by missing meds and lack of sleep.  He had his first grand mal seizure this past week.  We called an ambulance and once we got to the ER they did a blood test and his depakote levels were well below the therapeutic level!  He has been missing meds and being a normal 16 yo that stays up all night and plays video games.  Since the grand mal We have been spoon feeding him his meds exactly 12 hours apart and not allowing him out until his levels are right and he practices good sleep habits.  It’s so hard at this age.  I joined this page to try to connect with parents experiencing the same difficulties.

Buy a pill dispenser. It

Buy a pill dispenser. It helps. They will eventually get it. Once they get tired of the consequences when they don’t. I know it is hard, been there. My son refused to take his meds when he went out to college. The consequences were dire: gf left him, friends fled, had to w/d from college due to medical reasons, got drivers  license suspended the works. It broke my heart but that was the only way he finally learned. Before he thought I was a nag, but now he gets it.

Been there. Bless you. http:/
