New onset seizures

Hello, My daughter is 9 years old and has ADHD and mild autism. Last week her school called me and said she wasn't acting like herself, was disruptive in class, and was refusing to return to class. When I arrived at her school, she was leaned back in her chair with her head to the side and her eyes were closed but were rapidly moving. She was unresponsive to my prompts and when I tried to stand her up she was limp and when I let go she was going to fall but I helped her to the floor. This lasted about 5 minutes or so. When she came out of it she did not remember it happening. 6 days later she had the exact episode happen but this time she was at home in bed. She had an EEG this morning, but is not seeing the pediatric neurologist until 2 weeks from now. My question is, has anyone's child had a similar episode happen?

Your epilepsy story sounds

Your epilepsy story sounds familiar to other's but there are many epilepsies and we all have somewhat different stories. My child's kindergarten teacher notices 'staring' episodes - turns out they were complex partials. She was having (simple) partial seizures that we didn't realize were seizures for ages by the time she was diagnosed ~6 months after we were pretty sure she was having some kind of seizures - just didn't realize the variety of ways they can appear. Partial seizures can be tough to catch evidence of on EEG - most people with seizures will have some positive correlation on EEG by the time they've have their third well chosen EEG (some won't ever show seizures on an EEG because the seizures are too deep or too weak to show up). Please keep a record of any unusual episodes or complaints to discuss with your child's neurologist. Please ask how medication management is worked through their office (oftentimes docs increase doses over the phone in response to reports of more seizures). Please make sure that your doc explains how to contact someone there in an emergency, for non emergent questions and so forth. Please understand that many epilepsy medication sound very scary. You should discuss which side effects are very concerning, if any side effects are expected to lessen over time, how long it might take to determine that the medication is working (people expect instant results but that's not how epilepsy meds work), and how medications are started and stopped (slow tapering and the speed depends on the medication). You will also want to get an explanation of the exact type of seizures/syndrome if they find more info.

Thanks so much for replying! Your advice and info is very helpful! We are on the cancellation list with the pediatric neurologist so hopefully her appointment will be moved up.

So the EEG showed abnormal waves. We will see the pediatric neurologist for more details.
