Need your experience with Tegretol dosing asap

Hi, I'm starting my six year-old son on Tegretol this weekend. Due to our very tricky schedule over the next several days, I REALLY want to start him this weekend and deal with any side effects sooner rather than later. The problem is, our neuro gave us vague instructions for building up the dose, and he didn't call me back when I called for clarification. Arrrrgh, doesn't that always happen on a Friday? He has 100 mg chewable tablets of the generic version of Tegretol. His full dose, eventually, will be one tablet, twice daily. But the neuro said to start with less - one-half a tablet. But how often? Once or twice a day? I know you aren't doctors, and I will check anything anyone tells me with the pharmacist, and of course I'll call his neuro again on Monday. BUT, if you started your child on Tegretol, how were you advised to build it up? Thanks and Best Regards, Jen
