Discrimination

My three year old goes to a child care facility and her behavior has affected other students. Her teachers did nothing to help her with her behavior and since has been terminated because they have been such a liability to the development of the children of the class. The parents of the class are furious and the prior teachers who were terminated have circulated a rumor that I orchestrated their termination because they could not control my child. Now the parents have encouraged a hostile environment towards my child indicating that she has ADHD and that she has no place in the class or the school. I had her evaluation through the city and due to her epilepsy and the current medication she is behind developmentally. She will receive services in the fall for speech and play therapy to help her relate with her peers. How can I go about making a personal complaint against these parents who have committed this discrimination against my child who has a disability? kksmom

I am really sorry to hear what you and your child are going through. It is clear you are dealing with a group of very ignorant parents. Whether a child has behavior issues due to a med or other issues at the age of three, other parents should be more understanding. You did not mention what type of behavior she has engaged in but I can't imagine the behavior of any three year old would stir such a reaction. I think you should talk to the pre-school. They should have taken more responsibility here. Are they aware of the animonsity you are experiencing from the other families? They should have stepped in sooner and suggested that your child had an aid if they could not handle her behavior. Sounds like even if they offer this for the fall, it is not a good setting for your child. In certain communities, schools provide preschool programs with kids with special needs. You should look into that. As to filing a personal complaint against the parents, do you mean filing a lawsuit where you are asking for monetary damages or do you mean something else? Is it a private or a public preschool? Besides firing the teachers, has the preschool offered you any sort of solution?
