Dealing with tics is easy, but will it progress?

Fri, 01/05/2018 - 14:45
My son is six and has had four bouts of tics, the eye blinking sort. Well a few weeks ago he developed the eye opening wide kind. My concern is that my husband has epilepsy. A deformation in his right temporal lobe. He started having them six years ago. Now he has one grand maul a month. Like clockwork. Is there a chance my son may grow up to have epilepsy. Should I bring him in for a brain scan now while he is having the tics?

why not run this by his

why not run this by his pediatrician? there are other possible reasons for tics, your pediatrician will probably run some basic tests and then refer you to a neurologist to get more specifics checked out. MRIs are often clear in epilepsy nor are they always called for so a doc should be able to tell you when one is called for.just so you know... there is no definitive test that excludes epilepsy. usually one excludes other conditions, an excellent history is imperative, and the tests that uncover seizure activity may need to be done a number of times before useful info is uncovered (few people have epilepsy and won’t have useful info on any EEG).

Have you talked to your sons

Have you talked to your sons pediatrician? If not then start there since tics can be from other things too.As for your husband and his seizures << When was the last time he saw his neurologist and or had a medication changes or dosage changed?
