Couple of questions regarding meds and headaches

I have an 8 year old son who was diagnosed last year with BRE. My question is....medication prevents seizures but not electric (seizure?) activity? Also, he has been on the medication for one year, had a headache last week and one over the weekend, (I don't think this is a side effect of the medication because that usually happens within a few days or a week of starting a medication and he's had no problems with the medication)is this a sign of a seizure, does it have to do with seizure activity, or is it nothing and he just happens to have a headache?

Lisa-thank you so much for responding! I don't know if he had a seizure or not before then. You know how they say someone can have a seizure and someone wouldn't even know it, could that have happened? Maybe he just had a headache and I'm just getting paranoid. He is having an at home eeg, he gets hooked up on Monday the 28th through Thursday the 31st, so that should be able to tell us if he is having a seizure and us not know it right? Also, what do you mean by aura? Thank you so much for any info you can give me, I really appreciate it. This whole thing is pretty confusing!

Hi..
I've had seizures since I was three.. as a child I had auras but no longer.
However, there is no such thing as JUST an aura.
An aura alone IS a simple partial seizure.
"Aura: A warning before a seizure; a simple partial seizure occuring within seconds before a complex partial or secondarily generalized tonic-clonic seizure, or it may occur alone; also a warning before a migraine headache."
"Simple partial seizure: An epileptic seizure that involves only part of the brain and does not impair consciousness." http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/glossary.html

To find out plenty of information on E, I highly recommed epilepsy.com. The place is run by physicians that specialize in E, so the information there is accurate.

It could be just a headache. SOmetimes I get a headache after a seizure. Do you think he had one right before then? It also can be an aura but no seizure. take care Lisa http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/epilepsyapproach/
