Caretaker

Mon, 07/16/2018 - 23:30
I live in TN and care for my 11 month old grandson with epilepsy. (chromosome #15 disorder) His parents have to work so I take care of him from 7am til 3pm. 5 days a week. Two days a week I drive about 20 minutes to take him to occupational, physical and speech therapy appointments. Two days a week TEIS come into my home for therapy. I’m just wondering if anyone has information regarding compensation or benefit allowances for a grandparent caretaker? It would really help out. I’m not of retirement age yet. Thank you all for your time in advance and may God Bless each of you!

Nope, no such thing.Parents can receive social security for a disabled child to help off set such costs, so it would be up to them to give you some if they are receiving it.But in general, there are no such entitlements.

There are organizations in some states that will train people to be caretakers and then pay them through Medicaid.  I don't know if Tennessee has any of these.  God bless you for taking on a difficult task.
