Baby with seizures & no cause

Thu, 04/27/2006 - 00:47
I'm a newbie & have a 3 month old baby girl who has had seizures since she was 5 days old. Lucky for us, Phenobarb controls these seizures, but they make her very quiet. She is also being put on Lamictal (slowly). Her EEG/MRI/ultrasound/myriad of blood tests and lumbar puncture results are all clear - there is no apparent cause. The only other person in the family with epilepsy is me - I had the same seizures & same diagnosis (nothing). Would like to hear from other parents in similar circumstances

HI, I have a little girl Mia she is 15 months and for the first time in her short life she had a seizure it’s only been 3 days now from that day and I still feel horrible seeing her go through that, well as her seizure ended she started turning blue and stopped breathing for under a min. it seemed like forever she was given SPR by a friend of the family witch happens to be a nurse and she began to breath and her color came back, she was  immediately taken to the hospital and as we arrived in the emergency room she had another seizure luckily we where all ready in the hands of the doctors and they immediately new what to do after a lot of tests, lab, cat scans, x-rays and 2 days in the hospital for observation there was no cause given for the seizure but as Emily's mother mentioned they new that I wasn’t crazy they witnessed it them selfs she has a seizure she wasnt given any meds to take home but we are due back in the hospital in the next weeks  for further studies and a EEG hopefully everything continues to be good and she doesn’t go thrue this again and if she does I will be more prepared for it now what to do. Mia's mommy…Ariana

Hey Jo2! I am a mother of a 3 year old that was diagnosed with seizures @ 6 months. I had been describing these spells that she had but then one day I was at the Dr. with my son and she had one in the office. I felt releived that they would not think I was crazy anymore..then it hit me. They immediatly put her on trileptal and made an appointment to a ped.neruoligist. we got lucky we found one on the first try we love him..all of my daughters test were normal. EEG, MRI, ultrasound, catscan, everything but they kept her on the medicine and we saw her Dr. every four months unless she had on increase in the seizures. I thought that maybe they were wrong that since the test were are normal maybe she did not have this. Silly I know because she kept having the seizures. we are on Lamictal and Keppra and are trying to wean her slowly off the Lamictal. Long story but the dose she was having to take to keep her seizures under control was making her lose milestones and she was just not my sweet little girl. When she started losing milestones this past summer we were told we needed a Video EEG inpatient @ Vanderbilt..we live near Nashville,Tn. I agreed thinking this will prove she is okay and maybe we can get off all this med. And then I got even sure of my self when she did not have a seizure while we were there for 4 days. So we go to the Dr. to get the report and I am thinking so postive I already know what he is going to say...then it was like someone punched me in the stomach we went from everything looks normal a year ago to Generalized seizures, absence and atonic. They saw spikes and irregular sparks on both sides of her brain and a very large portion and she did not even have her full seizure. So please keep your head up and keep on top of everything and never think because a test does not show it that she does not have them. I never want a mother to feel like I did, I knew she had seizures but I wanted so bad for them to not be real I fooled myself. What type of seizures does your baby girl have? And I hope that your daughter responds well to Lamictal. Good luck and if you would like to talk or ask me questions I would love to hear from you. my e-amil wkrobinson@charter.net I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Do you have anymore children? hope this helps a little... Emily Klairs mom
