6 week old baby with uncontrolled seizures

Thu, 04/05/2018 - 13:18
Hi everyone, my baby was diagnosed with seizures when she was about 6 weeks old and she is current 3 months that is still having about 4 seizures a day. The doctors have put her on the max she can take with keppra and toppamax, but this still hasn't stopped them (if anything they are getting worse every time they do a huge jump in dosage amount.) she had a 24 eeg monitoring with video, and the doctor who reviewed it said he has never since this pattern before (dr has been doing this for 30 years). It was basically the opposite of what they would see with a seizure, but because each episode was the same pattern each time, they were going with seizures. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? They want to put her on a third medication that is not really studied with small babies her age and I am worried that this might affect her more. She as already lost her ability to track with the last upped dosage of Toppamax.

There are different levels of stumped. Are you at a well ranked children's hospital seeing an epileptologist who knows more about medication issues and uncommon forms of epilepsy? Because if your current neurologist had a problem like this in his family, he would consult a more specialized specialist, aka you need to see the person your doc would try to have his family member see. Infants are different than kids, so you need to get in to see someone who is an expert with infants and epilepsy.

We have been treated by the state’s children’s hospital that specializes in epilepsy.  Would you have any recommendations for a place or person who specializes with infants? Thank you for your help.
